Asanas are specific body positions or postures that open up the energy channels and psychic centres within the body. These postures help to control the mind and the energy within the body. Out of the original 8,400,000 asanas that have been codified in the yogic scriptures, only a few hundred of them are in use today. Most asanas are inspired from nature as the first yogis learned about yoga movements by watching trees, mountains, animals, birds and so on.
